5 Reasons to Chase your Travel Dreams Now
If you’re anything like me, you follow Instagram accounts of people traveling the world, taking absolutely stunning photos, living the dream…and you’re wondering…how?! How are they doing this?! Meanwhile…you’re stuck in a depressing office that barely gets any sunlight, surrounded by a bunch of duds, developing carpal tunnel, and working 10 hour days in an industry you couldn’t care less for. This is isn’t the life you imagined. It’s time to turn your daydream of adventuring the world into reality. Here are 5 reasons to chase your travel dreams now!
1 – There is Always Going to be a Reason Not to Do Something
There is always going to be a reason not to do something and when you focus on those negative reasons, you are making it more difficult to take action. You’re probably thinking…How am I going to start? What if I get there and completely regret it? I don’t have anyone to go with..What if I don’t meet any friends out there? What happens I can’t find a job out there? God forbid I run out of money! …the list goes on and on. If you keep thinking of reasons not to do something – then it’s never going to happen. The truth is…these types of scenarios and questions are never going to go away.
So, start thinking of the reasons why you should travel. And take action.
2 – Time is Precious, We’re Not Getting Any Younger
We have one life and it’s not guaranteed. It can be taken from us at any given moment. We have the time now and what we do with it is precious. Why wait to chase your dreams and explore the world?
If you continue to wait…who knows? You might not be physically capable to adventure (hike, ski, scuba, etc.) the same way you can now. You also won’t have the same types of experiences if you continue to wait. For example, would you rather go to a Full Moon Party in Thailand in your 20s or your 60s? Take advantage of your youth now because we’re not getting any younger.
3 – Fear is Temporary. Regret is Forever.
I read this on a sign at Bloukrans Bridge (the tallest bridge bungee jump in the world) in South Africa as I was getting ready to jump. I’m not scared of much..but, let’s just say I’m not the biggest fan of heights. My skin was Casper white, my heart felt like it was beating out of my chest, and my hands were shaking as I refused to look down. And then I saw this sign: “Fear is Temporary. Regret is Forever.”
Taking a jump is always scary…Whether it’s off a 709 ft bridge, making a major change in your life, or getting onto a plane for an unpredictable adventure. Some of us tend to get so comfortable in our day-to-day realities that we create a bubble that we’re scared to jump out of. But, once you take the jump, that fear eventually fades away. But if you never take the jump, you’re always going to wonder What If? Remember…fear is temporary, regret is forever.
4 – You Miss 100% of Shots You Don’t Take
I’m sure you’ve probably heard this one before. But…it’s so true. You can dream all day about traveling the world, but if no action is taken – nothing will change. It’s that simple.
5 – Because its Your Dream
There are no rules on how you are “supposed” to live your life. So, if traveling is what you dream of, then it is time to chase it! If you want to take a getaway trip, then just book it already!
If you want to become a digital nomad and travel while making an income, just know that it’s not going to happen overnight…but it’s never going to happen if you don’t start now. I don’t mean quit you job tomorrow and buy a ticket to Japan without a plan. Plan it out. Take your time. Baby steps. Just start now.
